Chinese Traditional Dancing Phenix-Dragon Motif
Painted String Carving on plate with gold gilding (certified 98% gold content purity)
Chinese Traditional Royal Theme (Gold and Royal Blue)
Deluxe Gift Box and Wooden Stand
Dimension: 8 in. diameter
This "dancing phoenix and dragon" plate is made with painted strings carefully wrapped to form a carving-like 3D traditional Chinese royal motif. The history of the unique painted string carving technique can be traced to late Ming Dynasty in Southeast China where the Chinese traditional artists used the technique to create vivid 3D deity figures or other natural subjects for worshiping. The artist first thoroughly mixes natural, different color paints extracted from plants and special limestone dusts to form an elastic, dough-like mixture, he then makes long strings with various thicknesses from this dough-like mixture. These painted strings are wrapped around a pre-designed figure or pattern on the surface of a porcelain plate to create 3D forms. The surface of the 3D figures is then gilded with fine gold dust.
