The curtain panel is imprinted with the four plants and blossoms. In Chinese Confucius tradition, a gentleman (Jun Zi 君子) with strength, gentleness, decency and endurance is represented in Chinese traditional paintings by the four plants: plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum, which imitates the unfolding of the heavenly seasons through the year. The four plants so chosen are native to the far east mainland and known for their winter-hardening beauty (plum blossoms), spring gentle elegance (orchid), summer up-growing with unbending character (bamboo), and autumn vibrant colors (chrysanthemum).
